Comparison of disinfectants for drinking water: chlorine gas vs. on-site generated chlorine

چکیده

The feasibility of on-site generated chlorine (OSG chlorine) as an alternative disinfectant to gas was evaluated in terms total organic carbon (TOC) removal, disinfection efficiency, biofilm control, by-products (DBPs) formation, decay rate, and volatility. Chlorine decreased the pH treated water by -0.1 per mg/L free available (FAC) while OSG increased + 0.06 mg/L. with more hypochlorite ion (OCl-) at higher less effective inactivation suspended bacteria TOC removal but remained distribution system longer controlled formation effectively than gas. DBPs not significantly different from that except for reduction Haloacetonitriles. Hypochlorous acid (HOCl) volatile OCl-, indicating lower volatility FAC chlorine-treated water. Two types systems, “Mixed oxidants” hypochlorite, did show any significant difference disinfection, rate (paired t-test, p = 0.40, 0.11 ~ 0.70, > 0.42). A synergy effect oxidants other cannot be expected use “mixed a treatment plant.

Effect of Common Drinking Water Disinfectants, Chlorine and Heat, on Free Legionella and Amoebae-Associated Legionella

Chlorine and thermal treatments are the most commonly used procedures to control and prevent Legionella proliferation in drinking water systems of large buildings. However, cases of legionellosis still occur in facilities with treated water. The purpose of this work was to model the effect of temperature and free chlorine applied in similar exposure conditions as in drinking water systems on fi...

Chlorine Disinfectants and Orp Control

INTRODUCTION The science of water disinfection is still a relatively new field for the tree fruit industry, as the widespread use of water disinfectants in this marketplace has only been occurring over the past couple of decades. In comparison, industrial water systems such as open recirculating cooling systems and evaporative condensers have been receiving chemical treatment for over five deca...

Stability and effectiveness of chlorine disinfectants in water distribution systems.

A test system for water distribution was used to evaluate the stability and effectiveness of three residual disinfectants--free chlorine, combined chlorine, and chlorine dioxide--when challenged with a sewage contaminant. The test distribution system consisted of the street main and internal plumbing for two barracks at Fort George G. Meade, MD. To the existing pipe network, 152 m (500 ft) of 1...

Comparison of chlorine, bromine, iodine as disinfectants for swimming pool water.

Studies on the germicidal activity of chlorine, bromine, and iodine were made by use of the Association of Official Agricultural Chemists official first action method for determining effectiveness of swimming pool water disinfectants. In this procedure, 0.3 ppm of available chlorine as chlorine gas has activity equivalent to 0.6 ppm of available chlorine in the buffered sodium hypochlorite cont...

Effect of pH, Chlorine Residual and Turbidity on the Microbial Bio Indicators of Drinking Water Network

Abstract Background and objective: Bioindicators of drinking water are always influenced by physical and chemical factors such as turbidity and chlorine.  Considering the assessment of drinking water quality is based on residual chlorine, E.coli, heterotrophic bacteria and turbidity.  We aimed to evaluate the effect of pH, chlorine residual and turbidity on the microbial ...
